Perhaps one of the most exciting discoveries for a designer or architect is an unused, deserted space that has incredible bones and huge potential. In 1973, Ricardo Bofill discovered just that.
The historic factory in Spain basically resembled ruins with huge expanses of concrete, crumbling stairways and large factory rooms. But Bofill certainly saw potential in the place, and after two years of hard work and careful planning it is now the headquarters of his architecture firm Taller de Arquitectura.
Bofill was careful to preserve the beauty of the industrial building throughout the restoration – after all that is what he fell in love with. From the exterior, the building still remains close to the original, with beautiful green vines draping from the enormous silos. Internally, Bofill kept the raw concrete as it was, along with enormous old rusted machinery which has all been brought to life by crisp white furniture and finishes. via Share Design
I definitely feel that the title 'diamond in the rough' kinda sums this up, it really is a grand attractively designed building combining the latest designs and incorporating classical themes.
