Beautiful Brussels House

Why is it that whenever you (aka me) actually has a responsibility to get something done, there seams to be so many other pressing things to get done first.  This evening I had a bunch of work to prepare for my students tomorrow and I just had to take the dog for a walk!! a LONG walk... when I came across a beautiful home I hadn't passed before.  They had a 19.19 Round Bocci Chandelier hung above a double wide stairwell flanked by massive windows completely open to the street.  I was seamlessly star struck and full of inspiration ready to run home and get started!  Here is a taste of what I would dream the rest of the house to be like.....  Happy Monday lovelies

V day

If ya know me... you may know I am a bit (aka: a BIG) Suck for the mushy love stuff.. But it can't be the gross kind, like a store bought teddy holding a balloon.  That just won't win my heart, however a beautiful card like one of these would leave me in a love puddle on the floor!!!

Don't Fear the Dragon

Yet 2012 is not simply the year of the dragon. It's actually the year of the water dragon. In Chinese astrology, each animal symbol is paired with one of five elements: fire, water, wood, earth or metal/gold, says Mi. (His daughter is a gold dragon and his son an earth dragon.)  If the past weekend of sleet, snow and rain wasn't enough of a start, Mi says to be prepared for some flooding. Did 2000, year of the golden dragon, bring wealth or just more metal  And many try to have babies during dragon years: If you're born in the year of the dragon, you are supposed to be endowed with the dragon chi, likely to be energetic, creative, powerful and smart, but sometimes "stubborn and short-tempered"

Moroccan Jewel

One thing I love about a new year, is the year in review articles in the papers and online.  Today I was checking out Elle Decor, and of course they had the top 10 spaces of 2010 (Great article PS.  I think Kerri Russel's home is my ultimate fav') However, this Moroccan Pattern Packed home caught my eye and melted my heart!  hope you like it just as much. xx  Kris

"We're driven to create the perfect hideaway.   The jewel in their crown—the home that Vega calls their "pleasure palace"—is a three-story house in Morocco complete with gardens, terraces, a swimming pool, and a hammam steam bath."

Animal Kingdom

I came across these photo prints by Aled Lewis (his other illustration and design work is amazing, too!) a few days ago, I also went to a very close friends baby shower today and I can’t stop thinking about them.

Alt Summit

Chances are, if you're reading this right now, you're lamenting the fact that you're the only person in the entire world who's not at alt summit in salt lake city. you're not, trust me. i'm not there, either. that makes two of us.

In-fact this is the first year I have even heard of it (Let me remind you The Bare Room was created just LAST MARCH!)  So in all fairness, I am still a newbie.. but just putting out here now: Next year 2013 I really really want to attend, look here at all the amazing speakers! Seriously.. WOW!

Baby its Cold Outside

For this first time this winter it has snowed here in Victoria.  But boy is it cold! So cold my skin has been angry with me, from the drastic change of cold temperatures to dry indoor heat my skin has been so so dry!  So today I splurged a little (or a lot...) on some new skin care.  Purchased was Origins Checks and Balances, frothy face wash and Origins Make a Difference, skin rejuvenating treatment
I will let you know how it goes.. As of lately I have been having trouble finding the exact right products I love, and also where to splurge and when to save!! Hopefully I can start writing some post from my personal insight, or if you have input or products you LOVE please email me!

and keep in mind, it's not just the product you buy that take care of your skin its how you take care of your insides too! Here are some helpful hints from The Beauty Department;

Have a Drink. You might not be as thirsty when it’s cold outside, but in fact, your skin loses up to 25% more moisture in the winter than in the summer! Get your fluids by drinking water, juice, soup, and caffeine-free tea and coffee.
Try hemp. Hemp seed oil is pressed from the seeds of nondrug varieties of cannabis, which means it doesn’t contain THC, the hallucinogen found in marijuana.  It’s packed, however, with anti-inflammatory omega-3 fats. Studies have shown that dietary hemp seed oil may improve hydration and reduce itching and dryness. Try it on salads (in
place of olive oil) or mixed into hummus and smoothies.
Go fish. Oily fish like salmon and trout are rich in a type of fatty acid called DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), which has been shown to help relieve dryness and itching. If you’re a vegetarian, you can substitute algae oil supplements for the fish.
